FAQs
Is it more expensive to buy direct from the farmer?
It depends what you are comparing it to. It is cheaper to buy directly from us than from most butchers as we don’t have the overheads that a butcher’s store does. Our meat is slightly more expensive than the grain-finished, wet aged beef you can buy at a supermarket but not nearly as expensive as their grass fed or organic lines. We choose not to charge a premium for our grass fed chemical-free beef because we believe healthy food should be affordable.
Are you organic?
No. We farm as much as possible on organic principles but we do not own the land where we sharefarm the cattle and the owners carry out selective spot spraying with low toxicity herbicides (not glyphosate) where needed to control blackberries and certain thistles. Other thistles and ragwort are kept in check by hand weeding - not an easy task on those steep hills! We plan the rotational grazing to maximise the amount of time before animals return to a pasture where spraying has taken place.
We take a proactive approach to animal health by focusing on growing healthy multi-species pastures on biologically active soils and providing free choice minerals for the cattle. We do not use chemical drenches, insecticides or bovine growth hormone and in the event that an animal does get sick and need antibiotics or other drugs it will not go into our butchering program.
Are you Halal certified?
No.
How often can I buy meat from you?
We aim to butcher one or two animals every two months. This is dependent on the animals being properly finished - grass finishing takes patience - and on our butcher’s availability to cut and package our meat.
Is the meat delivered fresh or frozen?
Your meat order is delivered fresh which gives you the option, if you are short on freezer space, of storing the vacuum sealed cuts such as roasts and steaks in the fridge for up to 10 days where they will continue to tenderise. Mince and preservative-free sausages should be frozen straight away unless you will eat them within 24 hours.
What payment options are there?
We accept payment by credit card, Mastercard, Visa, PayPal and direct deposit. If you choose to pay by direct deposit, please allow sufficient time (up to 3 business days) for funds to reach our bank account before the delivery date.
How do I get my meat?
You can choose to have your meat delivered to your home (delivery charge applies and only available in certain postcodes) or you can select a drop-off location to collect your order from during the hours specified. Current drop-off locations are in Leongatha, Korumburra, Traralgon and Scoresby.
Orders in the Leongatha / Korumburra area will generally be delivered on the same day (Friday) that we pick up the meat from the butcher and orders further afield will be delivered the following day (Saturday).
Delivery is not available for my postcode. What can I do?
Check out our drop off locations to see if you can collect your order on the day and time specified. Or organise with a family member or friend to collect your order for you - just drop us a line to let us know.
Alternatively, spread the word in your local area and if we get enough orders, we’ll look at setting up a new drop-off location in your town or suburb!
